It isn't digital, but it will pick up trunked systems if they are still analog. Plus, with it covering the 800 level freqs, I listen to all the public safety agencies. FTBasicMMO provides memory management for the FT-817, FT-818, FT-847, FT-857 and FT-897 transceivers including the D and ND versions and radios that have been modified to change the frequency coverage.

KC8UNJ Software Free software for programming Yaesu hand-helds. RT Systems Radio programming software and interface cables. I have ADMS, but G4HFQ writes software for Yaesu brand radios and sells it cheap, but you have to get your own cable. FTBasicMMO - memory management for the FT-8x7/8 series transceivers. G4HFQ Software Great software for programming Yaesu rigs. It makes programming and editing the banks a breeze. I can hit our repeaters anywhere in town and have talked 30+ miles to a repeater on it.

Actually, if I didn't know it costs $189, I would have guessed it to be a professional level radio. I like it because it is not so small that it looks like a toy, and the shape reminds me of professional grade HTs, such as I used in public safety work. Besides being a top performer, it has a durable case and seems to be a tough little radio. For proper noise rejection in a "single ended" high impedance signal path, you must maintain a very low ground reference plane impedance between the devices talking to one another, else ground currents will directly modulate a corresponding voltage onto the voltage reference plane.I've had mine for just a little over a year. The Mic input "Gnd" is of course connected to chassis ground as well, but it occurs through PCB traces near other sensitive high impedance circuits before it terminates to the PCB ground plane, which terminates somewhere to actual reference plane ground somewhere else inside the radio's housing, & thus will have a higher impedance pathway to the actual Ground reference plane, in addition to more opportunities for inductive or capacitive coupling to high impedance circuits internal to the radio.īecause my packet modem is also likely to be DC ground referenced via its separate power supply connection, connecting the 2900 & the packet modem together via the cable will no doubt create a ground loop and I do not want any ground loop currents to be conducted onto PCB traces where they will have MUCH higher chances of showing up on the transmitted or received signal.īy using the audio output jack ground, any ground current loop noise will be conducted directly to the chassis of the radio with as low of impedance path as "reasonably" possible without directly ground bonding the Modem & Radio together with a heavy strap, & thus reduce the potential / magnitude of any common mode noise voltage caused from the ground loop current being transmitted by the radio, or received by the modem. I did it this way because the rear 1/8" jack ground is also directly chassis grounded, and should provide an overall lower impedance pathway to "actual" ground reference plane for proper induced noise rejection / bypass. On my APRS cable harness for the 2900, I only used the rear audio output jack "Gnd" and did not connect the mic GND at all.
